Just signed up here after Google pointed me in this direction, and I am a huuuge fan of the band since the early 90's and like a million other people I was devastated when Shannon Hoon passed away. The guy was an absolute brilliant artist who's life I was following along with being that I was in a band myself at the time, was a big fan of Blind Melon, and I was also battling my own "demons" with a drug addiction for about 10 years from 1984 to 1994(was into heavy weed smoking, popping qualudes & valium, and snorting & free basing cocaine). I used to just kick back and listen to their songs while getting high and trying to write my own songs, and I could totally feel & relate to Shannon's lyrics because alot of them were about his struggles with drug addiction and his desire to stop & get clean. Believe it or not those songs helped me get through alot of my struggles and pain at the time, and now proudly I sit here having stayed totally clean & sober for 13 years and counting, but sadly Shannon was not able to find & follow the same path I did while I ironically listened to HIS own lyrics from back then.
Well that's a brief description of my story and I look forward to getting to know some other Melon members stories as well.
